Today in church I had a young girl ask me if I loved my son. And my natural reaction was to say yes of course I do, how could I not love him. But it got me thinking about her question, why would she ask this? I think far to often we take our mothers love for granted and don't appreciate it as we should. There are people out there who don't know a mothers love or don't have a mother to love them. If we just stop for a moment and think, how it would be to not have a mother to love us, or for our children to not have a mothers love them?
Having a child of my own now I can't comprehend how a woman could not love her child. That small wonder that you brought into the world is something that is a part of you, a precious gift that God has given you to nurture and cherish as long as they live. When Samuel was born I wept tears of joy that he was here and for weeks after would sit and look at him with awe and wonder at this tiny little baby that has been entrusted into my care. There is just something inside of me that could not help but love my son even before he was born.
It has been said that a mother will serve her children with all she has neglecting even her husband and other responsibilities to meet their needs with out getting any gratitude for it. This is an amazing selfless love that has been going since the beginning of time. (not advocating neglecting your husband by the way) I think we owe more to our mothers then we realize, just think about all those diapers they changed and messes they cleaned up and then realize all the sacrifices they made for us as we were growing up. If you are a parent even of a baby you are starting to understand just a little what it is like. We need to take the time to thank our moms for all they did and continue to do for us and most especially for loving us like they do.
So a big thank you to my mom and all mothers out there and a happy mothers day!
